Mountaintop Removal Coal Mining

Faith and Mountaintop Removal Mining

Mountaintop Removal is destroying God's Creation and permanently impoverishing the people of Appalachia. Mountaintop removal is the process of removing the tops of mountains to get to the coal underneath. Not only does it devastate Creation, it also condemns entire communities to horrifying health impacts and economic decline. Join us as we work to address mountaintop removal.

About Our Work

We are working to move the conversations among faith communities forward on the issue of mountaintop removal through education and dialogue. We have collaborated with churches both within and outside Appalachia to screen the film "Dirty Business" and host film discussions. We are also working with churches in Appalachia to host listening sessions, where the faith community can facilitate a space for dialogue on what can often become a divisive and contentious issue.
